Welsh Harlequin Ducks

ducks.PNG

We've been growing this heirloom breed  (which is critically endangered in North America) for 5 years now, and although they are considered a 'lightweight' breed, they do well as dual purpose birds. Their meat is lean, yet very flavorful. As a variant of the Khaki Campbell breed of ducks, they lay close to 250 eggs per year, yet are much calmer and friendlier than the Khaki Campbells.  Several of the females will gently tap my legs with their beaks if they think they need more treats or the pool is getting low on water.
